Happy Father’s Day to all you great Dad’s out there. Thanks to my beautiful wife and daughter for making me the very Happy and Proud Father I am today, I have such a great family and I really love and appreciate them. I wish I could have spent more time with my dad, my parents divorced when I was real young and my dad moved out of town and took jobs like working on the Alaskan pipeline so I didn’t see him much. In 1977, when I was 15 I got in lots of trouble and got to go live with him, that was great, he died a few months later, that sucked, I still miss him and think about him all the time.
When I was eleven I had this little autograph book and at my Dads 36th birthday party I got everybody to write something in it, people wrote stuff like: “May you always be at the top” (my Grandma wrote that), “With luck someday you might have a Porsche that you can race” (my Dad’s young girlfriend wrote that, she raced Porsches and I wanted to also), everybody wrote stuff like that in my little book, but my dad took the book and said he needed some time to think about it, he brought it back later and had written, “Son, Strive Always to Improve Yourself Through Greater Understanding, Dad“. Wow, I remember reading that and trying to figure out WTF it really meant, I did figure it out, and those well thought out words words have benefited me as much as anything else I have learned, thanks Dad…

One of the greatest things ever given to a son: “Son, Strive Always to Improve Yourself Through Greater Understanding, Dad“. So damn beautiful and so true. Damn! We need more dads like yours in the world, and like you.
That was one of the best shorts I’ve read. What a way to start me day. Thank you!
